City planners set up development controls to stop the Spanish structures from being destroyed in 1925. This was done to keep the city’s charm, and it was the first time a group considered the significance of historic structures. Laws and regulations were implemented to protect parks and one of a kind buildings. Santa Barbara founded protection for historic landmarks back in 1960.
