At the beginning of the 20th century, the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture style developed in the US. The style was born out of the former Spanish colonies being turned into American cities. Most often this movement is found in California, and started after an 1925 quake required Santa Barbara to be redesigned. It was created by architect George Washington Smith, who relocated to Montecito and made it known.
