Kenny Slaught explains that Hospice of Santa Barbara runs a variety of services not just for persons facing terminal and chronic illness, but also to their families. Many of the programs at the organization serve the needs of children struggling with the impending or recent passing of a loved one. Nearly 20 percent of children experience the loss of a family member before they turn 18, with one in 20 children suffering the loss of one or both parents before they reach adulthood. Hospice of Santa Barbara provides individuals in these scenarios with donation-based support by offering numerous programs to help them cope with grief to avoid or minimize depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
