Santa Barbara is not only popular due to its tourism but also its business, noted Kenny Slaught. Many new firms have been started here in the past years. Some of these, including AppScale, LastLine, TrackR, and Salty Girl Seafood, were funded by University of California Santa Barbara graduates. The Central Coast has seen twice the investment per capita in development compared to the great Los Angeles region, despite having a smaller market. In the previous year, newly founded companies in the area generated over $200 million. Places like Hollywood or Silicon Valley may be more appealing, however a less developed area leaves more space for growth. This is one of the best regions in US to start a business in biotech, medicine, technology or science. Some of the companies started here include Inogen, Raytheon, Sonos, and BioIQ.
